From Greece comes Luna Obscura.The band play a dark style of gothic, atmospheric metal with some avant-garde elements thrown in as well. The band has two singers, the female vocalist is Gogo Melone and Aris Potonos handles the more extreme male vocals.

 

The band is completed by Dimitris Papachristos on guitars and orchestral programming and Stratos Kountouras on bass. The band has just released their full-length debut titled Feltia and I can say that it is 11-songs and 46-minutes worth of some of the most powerful and atmospheric music I've heard in quite some time...

I have been looking for a great gothic/doom release for the whole year of 2008 and I was never able to find one. Just a few weeks ago I discovered Luna Obscura, and since the album was released in 2008 I have to say that I did found the release I was looking for during that year.

After finding bands like this I have to wonder if the world is ever going to run out of bands that play this .. at it’s best, and my answer has always been: NO, I keep finding bands that blow me away.

Normally I should, since it became a trend for a modern band to have operatic female vocals on their ranks, point out the reasons why someone should listen to Luna Obscura.

 

The reasons that make this band stand out from the rest of the bands serving the genre. I will be brief: the band exceeds every expectation...

 

 

 

 

 

Pour les plus nostalgiques, le duo de vocaux et certaines ambiances vous rappelleront After Forever, sans pour autant vous faire penser à une pâle copie; Luna Obscura se pose plutôt comme un groupe qui mélange au mieux ses diverses influences (on pense aussi à Trail of Tears). Parlons de ce Feltia, qui recelle de nombreuses merveilles.

Initially because Luna Obscura are straightforward!... 

I was sipping my green-tea this evening, when I found about this band. Looking at the pictures they had and then I found a female-fronted woman, I was like “Ok! I’m a young-lady and I’m into anything that has to do with any woman (Girls rocks) so I decided to check this band and this is what I found out about them.

I'm excited about this band! Out of Greece, Luna Obscura (latin for "dark moon") finally brings us their full-length debut 'Feltia', after nearly a decade in the demo stage.

 

 

The good thing is, this debut comes off as much more than a debut, and is instead along the lines of something you'd expect from a band's 3rd or 4th CD.
